LADNR SONRIS Data Conversion

Converted the Lousiana Department of Natural Resources SONRIS well data to a normalized database model for injection data. The SONRIS dataset is an unstructured, convoluted set of hundreds of tables with many duplicates that necessitated extensive transformation. Since there is a limited data dictionary, the work required someone with extensive knowledge of well data. Setup multiple SQL queries with up to 10 joins. Transformed the data to a uniform data model.

Vantage Unconventional Cost Model

Author and developer for the IHS Vantage Unconventional Cost Model. Created a detailed cost model for unconventional (horizontal & hydraulically fractured) wells. Gathered baseline cost data from AFEs in multiple geologic basins and indexed the data quarterly to IHS cost indexes. Built a prototype model and then lead a four person development team to deploy the model to a web platform. Updated the model quarterly and created cost sheets for all North America assets and Argentina.

Cameco Injection Wells

As Completions Manager for Schlumberger, developed a test program for five injection wells located near Douglas, WY. Developed a model to calculate bottom hole pressure using surface pressure and friction losses along tubing. Worked with a SLB pressure transient analysis expert to determine permeabilities of the injection zones. Managed hydraulic fracturing of the injection zones and developed a model to estimate long term injectivity. Managed all work on-site. Wrote a report on the well design and test results.

Resolution Copper Mine

Developed a large scale numerical groundwater model to predict the potential impacts of a block cave mine near Superior, Arizona. The project involved gathering all of the well data, geologic data, and groundwater data near the mine, processing the data and setting up a project database, and transforming the data so it could be input into the model. Setup the model in Modflow-Surfact and entered the data, calibrated the model, and ran different scenarios to develop the mine. The model is being used for planning and permitting purposes.

Coalbed Methane Water Management

Hundreds of coalbed methane (CBM) wells were drilled to dewater coal deposits near Gillette, Wyoming. This created a need to manage all the produced water. We managed all the observation wells and hundreds of impoundments in the area to store the water and evaporate the water. We created a database for the project, managed the data, and developed models which were used for planning purposes and to gain approval for the project.

South Pipeline Mine, Nevada

Ran a basin-wide numerical groundwater model to determine the impact of dewatering for the open pit South Pipeline Mine. The project required gathering all of the well and geologic data around the mine, processing the data, setting up a database, and building the model with MODFLOW-SURFACT. Incorporated a pit lake package into the model to help determine how fast a pit lake would form when the mining is completed. The model was used to help gain approval for the project as part of an Environmental Impact Statement.

McKittrick Injection Model

Developed a stochastic injection numerical model to probabilistically model pressure increases from a water injection field at McKittrick Oil Field. Included probabilistic realizations of input parameters, including permeability and porosity and ran the model 1000's of times as a Monte Carlo simulation. Ran different scenarios of putting new injection wells at different locations to help with planning purposes for future injection at the field.

High Level Nuclear Waste Program

Developed a software tool called KFLDST to estimate permeability from Drill Stem Test (DST) data for the High Level Nuclear Waste Project near Amarillo, Texas. Analyzed 1000s of DSTs using the tool. The data was input into a basin wide cross-sectional model of the Palo Duro Basin. Prior to developing this model, the project team was struggling how to estimate permeability from oil and gas data.

Geochemical Database Tool

Developed a database and UI to manage geochemical sample data for multiple projects at CDM. The database included sample header data, including when and how the sample was collected, what kind of sample it was, and the results of lab testing for hundreds of analytes. Prior to building this system, the project team used excel spreadsheets to manage the data which was a logistic nightmare for reporting. Developed standarized reports.
